It’s with an overwhelming sense of excitement and delight that we would like to propose a toast and introduce you to the freshest and funkiest dogs in the Modular pound, the producers of the swampiest fantasy house music from Australia’s wild west, Canyons. Canyons equal two DJ’s/producers Leo Holiday and Ryan Sea-mist, Perth transplants who’ve been residing a rearranging dancefloors in Sydney for a shade over 12 months.
Drawing influences from the far corners of planet Earth and beyond, Canyons’ music strikes a balance between sand dunes and icebergs, psych and acid house, volcanos and valleys, pop and disco, fiction and fact. Not ones to claim genres or adhere to them, the Canyons approach to writing music is one of intuition and feel. Dancing is encouraged, and quiet listening works just as well.
Holiday and Sea-mist have been producing their distinctly boundary-less modern cacophony for a couple of years now, in that time attracting interest from all four corners of this rock from fans of eclectic, irreverent dance music. Canyons run their own label Hole in the Sky, used simply to put out music they believe should be heard.
Their debut album is in the making and will be released on Modular Recordings in the near future, preceded by a single release before 2009 is out. With the odd remix in the pipelines and a 12” single release due out this July on DFA, Canyons are also working towards piecing a full live band together to take their musical healing on the road and to the people.
WOLFMOTHER STUDIO UPDATE: Wolfmother are currently holed up in a studio in Los Angeles with the unenviable task of following up their monumental debut album. However from all we’ve heard it’s well on the way to greatness, as is the working title of the album, Cosmic Egg.
Wolfmother stepped out of the studio last Friday to play a show amongst the taxidermy buffalo and elk at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum. There they ripped through a suite of songs old and new to an LA crowd that’s been starved of Wolfmother in recent times in a show that saw the new lineup perform for the first time in the states. Check it out HERE. You can also still get hold of the brand new track Back Round from over HERE.
VAN SHE UNLEASH ZE VEMIXES
Being the dashingly post-modern modern pop outfit that they are, Van She have gone and completely reworked the bulk of their debut album V into a brilliantly banging techno techno called Ze Vemixes. Taking tracks like Strangers, Cat & The Eye, Changes and Talkin, re-imagining and destroying the early single Sex City and with the addition of a new track, the seriously titled Techno Music, Ze Vemixes is a stunning showcase of the Van She Tech side of the Van She coin.
Ze Vemixes will be available as a second disc alongside the US release of V complete with reworked artwork, or as a stand alone digital release, later in the year.
TAME IMPALA
Tame Impala are a psych/kraut/rock and roll/space loving trio hailing from Perth, Australia. One of the newer additions to the Modular clan, these guys recently made their live debut in the UK to rave reviews and supported MGMT and Yeasayer in Australia. Now, you can finally pick up the self titled debut EP by Tame Impala at Itunes, Turntable Lab, EMusic & Insound! Our favorite psychedelic shoeless West Australians are sure to be a welcome addition to your summer of endless BBQs, pot smoking, & beer drinking.
They also have a brand new utterly blissful track called Sundown Syndrome on their MySpace page, recorded in fair London town.
EINE KLEINE NACHT MUSIK
In the weirder, wilder and whimsical back pocket of Modular, we have our little gem of cosmic Krautrock called Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, or A Little Night Music. EKNM is the exceptionally wonderous, cosmically exquisite project of Henry Smithson, aka Riton. This record is a blissful trip down the autobahn, circa 1974, a genius motorik rythmn and shimmering atmospherics of churning basslines and tripped out sitar, relentess drums and drifting synths. In the spirit of the Krautrock forefathers and their synth pioneering mothers, Modular is proud to present the ITunes release of EKNM,

VAN SHE TECH US DEBUT!!
Modular is making a sad face this week since Ladyhawke and Bumblebeez had to cancel their US tour dates next week. However, VAN SHE TECH IS STILL COMING and will be making their US debut next Tuesday, October 14 in the basement of Santo's Party House in NYC.
Van She Tech is Nicky and Michael from the band Van She. Van She Tech is their electronic/DJ/producer/remixer alter ego and they've remixed Ladyhawke, Feist, The Presets, New Young Pony Club, Klaxons and the infamous DAFT PUNK - AROUND THE WORLD AGAIN (Nicky Van She & Dangerous Dan) that you've probably heard ad nauseam, but we still love it. VST has never DJed in the USA before so come on out and show them a good time.

Modular Recordings and Universal Music Australia have launched an innovative widget to coincide with the release of 'Talk Like That', the 3rd single by The Presets from their album 'Apocalypso'.
The link below should take you to it if you copy and paste this URL:
The widget invites people to leave messages for the band and one other in real time, relating to the lyrics to the song and also to the subtitles featured in the music video.
The concept is the first of its kind. It's almost like a huge instant messenger, where the messages appear simultaneously on every site the widget is placed.
The widget also relates back to the website http://www.talklikethat.com, where clues are placed for participants to win prizes.
Modular is over the moon to bring in a new era of mental exploration and swinging, free-jamming delight with their freshest signing Tame Impala. Their debut release morphs into the shape of an EP in October. Get a FREE download of Skeleton Tiger over at www.tameimpala.com.
Tame Impala are Kevin Parker [Guitar & Vocals], Dominic Simper [Bass Guitar] & Jay Watson [Drums & Vocals] the Perth-based 3 piece hypno-groove wet dream who deliver music that makes other bands look like a bad acid flashback, think Cream meets Can on an ether-tinged desert ride with Dr. Gonzo. With fuzzed guitars, tumbling drums and howling vocals a plenty, the band evokes dreamy images of a place where music belongs to all five senses and rhythm aligns with the pulse of the space-time continuum.
The Tough Alliance are a duo of dreamers from Gothenburg, of which not a lot of personal information is known, but whose notoriety precedes them with hefty weight. Kicking about in their native Sweden since 2004 and having established themselves as one of the most infamous bands on the scene there, The Tough Alliance are ready to take on the world, one disbeliever at a time.
A New Chance is a pure turquoise dream of ecstatic house pianos, white sand, melancholic strings, blind faith in the future and how everything – hand on heart - comes down to emotions. It’s the record that sounds like an endless summer, and it will be preceded by the first single Neo Violence, with remixes to come from Laidback Luke, Zongamin, Woolfy and Windsurf.
Sweden has had their share of The Tough Alliance, now it’s everyone else’s turn to fall in love. For a thorough introduction into the duo's charms, check them out on YouTube.
In case you missed it earlier in the email, Van She Tech have confirmed two US appearances in NY and LA in October.
Van She Tech has never DJ'd in the US before, so it should be a good time.

Talk Like That , the new single by The Presets is arguably the most infectious track on an album chock full of ambitious beat driven pop. The clip from directors Jonas & Francois is right here.
