Claude VonStroke - Who's Afraid of Detroit? (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
The song that Richie Hawtin proclaimed "Best Track of 2006" (DJ Magazine) lives on in this brand new music video. (click subject line to check the vid)

Poney Poney - Cross The Fader video
Directed by AH.
Please do not be offended by the controversial depiction of the female body in this video. Also, we apologize in advance for the so-called "cash-burning" scene. We had a lot of money to spend on this, lots went into ILM-level special effects and into cajoling one or two movie stars into doing funny, career-threatening cameos, but we still had a lot of euros laying around. It was before the market collapse. We're sorry.

VIDEO: The Bronx - Young Bloods
This video for The Bronx's new single "Young Bloods" is basically a combination of the following cinematic elements: any James Bond title sequence from the past ten years, the part in SLC Punk where Stevo and Trish drop acid in the park, and the fight scenes from Nacho Libre. All justifably awesome in their own right, but combined here for greater effect. This song is great, you can download it below, and now you can go buy the record it came out on (The Bronx III) because it came out yesterday. Get on it.

Introducing: Jean Nipon
I don’t expect you to know who Jean Nipon is because, frankly, neither do we. And yet, he’s one of the Institubes originals, he was behind our third record ever, under the name Teamtendo. And yet, he is a fixture of the Paris club scene, building bridges between all the various, dysfunctional crews. He’s even roommates with one of us, but let me tell you: snoring patterns, however entertaining and quirky, say very little of the heart of a man. Nipon is a fractious, peculiar creature. He agrees to no rules and no higher power, and under the veil of unassailable coolness, remains an enigma for us all.
Jean Nipon started out as a drummer in Hardcore bands and started to play out as a DJ circa 97. At first it was a cheap ploy to get more in touch with his fellow humans (read: get girls). Then it became something of an art form, and many a reveler remembers his seven-hour sets at Paris Paris where, as a resident, he would play the latest bangers in custom-edited form, plus Prince, Minor Threat, Aphex Twin and the Beastie Boys, Dinosaur Jr and Lio, Pink Floyd and Shellac, My Bloody Valentine and KRS One. We’ve also seen him funcrush a couple of yuppie parties that didn’t deserve to dance: he’s a man of principles. Let’s go back: hardcore drummer, DJ, designer, lives in Japan for a year, designs a Coca Cola bottle, sells records for two years in Paris at Katapult where he meets DJ Wet with whom he starts I.Y.M. (a 12” released by Wwwilco) and Teamtendo. Teamtendo was a duo of giant plushies who played 8-bit-gabber-electro on tricked-out Gameboys (a 12” through Institubes and one via Deco). Did some remixes for TTC, Ark, Micronauts, Cosmo Vitelli, Lesbians On Ecstasy, Adam Kesher, David Rubato. Directed three volumes of the DJ-oriented “Eurogirls” vinyl project for Arcade Mode.
Now Jean Nipon is stepping up on his own as a member of the Institubes family, with full privileges. He brings with him a precious knowledge of the obscure and the mainstream, of the rare and the common, and that’s what makes him so definitely necessary. We have a video for you today, directed by JeanMi & Tony. And check back in a few, we'll have a track for you to download.

PS: Well done, America. We all needed that break.
DOWNLOAD: Mason Proper - Fog + Lock And Key Video
The spooky organ sighs in the opening seconds of "Fog" are the first sounds you hear on Olly Oxen Free, the record Mason Proper put out back in September on Dovecote. After a few moments they evaporate into the murky fabric of samples and drums that cloud the song, which essentially sounds like waking up in a rain forest filled with koala bears. Add some shuffling floor toms and Jon Visger's buoyant voice and you've got one effective album opener, a track that doesn't come out swinging as much as it comes out hugging...warmly. MTV's Subterranean also premiered the video for their single "Lock and Key"--a track we world premiered back in August--so check that out above or tonight on the show (tomorrow technically, 11/6 at 1:00AM EST). For those who want to catch the band live (last time we saw them they played Olly pretty much front-to-back) they'll be hitting the road with Cloud Cult next week, dates below.
Sounds like: Ra Ra Riot, Dr. Dog, The End Of The World

GO VOTE TODAY
Look, we're music nerds. That's what we do here. We don't really want to get political on our readers, but today is probably the most significant day in the United States since September 11th, so if you're over the age of 18 and able, go vote today. If you don't know where your polling station is, Google has your back. We're all really excited and nervous and will surely be glued to our televisions while the news rolls in tonight, but until then we'll leave you with some great footy of The Clash, who could motivate even the most ambivalent among us to care. We're guessing Joe would probably be pretty stoked about today.
EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Division Of Laura Lee - Violence Is Timeless (SLR Live) + At The Show Appearance
Somewhat interestingly, the first and only Division Of Laura Lee album I bought came out on Epitaph Records. The Swedish band has since left the west coast punk 2.0 juggernaut behind, but their barbed, circulating post-punk has remained just as sharp in the interim and they'll release a new album called Violence Is Timeless tomorrow. During their first stop in LA in four years, the band sat down with the Mania TV crew for an episode of Spaceland's At The Show series, which you can preview above and watch in full here. As always, the SLR folks have hooked up an exclusive download to go along with the clips, so nab a live take on the new record's title track as well.
Sounds like: Skeletons, Fugazi, Hopewell

If you haven't already experienced the bands, the dancers, the ladies and the partying found at an HBCU homecoming then just watch this video. Pop a bottle, put on your bowtie and get down.

CMJ: VIDEO: Ponytail Live At The Levi's®/FADER Fort NYC
CMJ actually ended on Saturday but our ears are still ringing and our bodies aching, so what better time to relive the Ponytail set that we caught on Friday, right? The Baltimore four-piece got some serious nods this week (what up cover of NYT Arts Section) but we still feel like people are pretty split over their love/hate of them. Personally, I fall heavily towards the former, and this set at the Levi's/FADER Fort was one of the most exciting things I caught all week. Decide for yourself, "Beg Waves," the first track from their album Ice Cream Spiritual, is above.

CMJ: FEATURED: Behind The Scenes With Michna & Ghostly CMJ Showcase Tomorrow (10/25)
Our bros over at Ghostly have posted up some great footage they shot of their boy Michna in his apartment and around the neighborhood, talking about his musical development and making some ill veggie soup. Catch the clip above and head over to the Ghostly blog for Michna's upcoming tour dates (including a stop at One Step Beyond at the Natural History Museum in New York) and if you're doing the CMJ thing, head out to the Ghostly showcase on Saturday at Le Poisson Rouge, featuring sets from Matthew Dear, School Of Seven Bells, Michna, and Mike Servito.
