DOWNLOAD: Reefer - Let It Go (Flying Lotus Remix)

You've probably never chilled on the beaches of another planet, overlooking the vast space that is the Milky Way Galaxy, enjoying the fact that it's just you, your thoughts, and the stars. Chances are, you probably never will either. However, thanks to Flying Lotus’ remix of Reefer’s “Let It Go” you can at least imagine you can. Reefer is one-half Nick Thorburn (of Islands, The Unicorns fame) and one-half Daddy Kev, and their combined vibe is pure down-tempo, hip-hop goodness. Their debut album—the self-titled Reefer, available Oct. 14 (via Alpha Pup)—was composed on the Maui shorelines which not only explains the tropical undertones, but also the innocuous Ecco the Dolphin sample used.

Thievery Corporation’s static grooves and dub excursions pull trans-global in their influences, but the DJ/production duo still refer to their hometown of Washington, D.C. as the “real Babylon”. It’s hard to imagine, though anyone who’s been to Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street might actually agree with them. Promised lands aside, Thievery Corporation describe their new album Radio Retaliation (out September 23) as a “political record”, and its first track—the cloudy, Kingstonized trip-hop lounge jam “Sound The Alarm”—is available for download right here. Nightmares on Wax - Hear in Colour

With "thought so...", the new Nightmares on Wax groove-ridden aural road-trip set to release in a mere few days (Sep 2nd in the US - mark those calendars), the time has come for the blogging populous (blogosphere is a heinous term for the wicked) to twitter, feedburn, digg, stumble and otherwise illuminate your path to a free mp3 download of "hear in colour". A smoked-out car ride down the coast in late summer with a few friends and the windows down is probably the easiest way to describe it and incidentally, the best way to enjoy it. Not that we're telling you how to live your life, but take a listen and you just might find yourself on a drive seeking a destination, or perhaps not having one at all.

Nightmares on Wax - Thought So...

It always feels good to arrive at a certain destination after a long journey, whilst simultaneously knowing that a new chapter has just opened. For George Evelyn aka E.a.s.e., the force behind trailblazing leftfield act Nightmares On Wax, things have come full circle.
This new album was inspired by a special journey from Evelyn’s birthplace of Leeds to his new family home located right in the middle of Ibiza. Instead of shipping all his studio equipment by boat, E.a.s.e. rose to the challenge of writing some music on a unique roadtrip. By bringing the gear, a decent sound engineer and the N.O.W. live band members in camper vans on the long journey from the UK to the Balears and with a setting that readily provided inspiration, the rapport in exchanging ideas was instant, and thus the concept of "thought so..“ arrived, from the process itself.
"I remember quite a bunch of great moments on that road trip as if it was yesterday“ Evelyn recalls. "We would stop at any sight or landscape view that promised some sort of inspiration really, allowing us all the freedom to just dwell in that moment and emotion we found ourselves in, only to get inspired by the resulting feelings.“

DOWNLOAD: Alpha - Burn Me Again (Wendy Stubbs remix)

With Portishead and Tricky releasing new albums, Massive Attack curating the Meltdown festival, and Tracey Thorn back on the top of her game, we suppose it’s safe to say that trip-hop is firmly in fashion once again. Alpha hail from the capitol of trip-hop, Bristol, UK, and are seamlessly carrying on the local tradition of spooky female vocals and downtempo breakbeats. Today we’re featuring the Wendy Stubbs remix of “Burn Me Again”, which would fit perfectly on Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp. We just had a lie down and listened to it a couple of times on repeat, and it just might have been the most awesome part of our day.

FEATURED: Massive Attack at the SEEN RCRD LBL blog

The SEEN RCRD LBL blog reports that none other than amazing trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack are curating this year’s Meltdown festival on London’s South Bank. Curators in the past have included David Bowie, Morrissey and Jarvis Cocker, and this year’s festivities are set to be similarly off the chain. The apex of the event is going to be a live remix performance of the soundtrack to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. That’s right. LIVE MASSIVE ATTACK BLADE RUNNER REMIX. Reason #4098 why we need to defect to Ol’ Blighty, statutory.
Anyway, the SEEN blog has loads of info, so make sure to check out their post, especially if you’re a London resident!
