Wow, thanks God. I mean, we know we're messing up with the whole global warming/war for oil thing, but it's nice to know You're at least giving us a Violens/MGMT/Grizzly Bear tour as a consolation prize. When we're nothing but floating heads in a cryogenetically frozen tanks of goo and the Earth is a barren wasteland of nuclear fallout, at least we'll still have the sweet memories of this summer's ridiculously amazing shows. So, You know, thanks.

VIDEO THRWBCK: The Slits - Typical Girls (1979)

Every time we hear some dumb interviewer ask some amazing all-girl band like, the Coathangers or something a question like, "So, what's it like to be an all-girl band?" A) it makes us pukey and B) we get really pissed off when the band actually answer the question instead of doing what the Slits would do, which is obviously just be awesome, not care and do whatever (which is what the Coathangers pretty much do, but we were just using them as an example). Seriously, try it sometimes.

Oh, serendipity. We’re still coasting on an indie pop high from seeing the Vaselines in all their glory last night, when who should post a track by post-C86 band Softboiled Eggies but the Spaceland RCRD LBL blog. Softboiled Eggies can be often found at the Echo, at the venue's Saturday night indie party Part Time Punks (named after the Television Personalities single, natch), and much like the Vaselines, they’re a girl/boy duo with a whole bunch of tongue-in-cheek ire and wit. “She Fell Through the Trees” makes us really want to check this band out live, nothing is better than homegrown local bands that can really bust out the post-punk melodies.

Sounds like: Television Personalities, The Wake, Lydia Lunch, Chairlift

Last week we introduced you to Cruel Black Dove, a bluesy darkwave band from Brooklyn who blend Kills-like sass and '80s goth sensibilities into tracks like their current single "Love Song". The band have released a video for "Love Song", which is the perfect visual representation of what the band is going for: dark and awesome. Check out the bassist! Badass.

The band are playing legendary underground club Crashin' In on Thursday at Galapagos in Brooklyn, so be sure to check them out!

Paper Bag have gone on and continued the legacy of the RCRD LBL Homepage and posted a VIDEO THRWBCK of their own, for Uncut’s 2004 single “Understanding the New Violence”, which features the moody foursome looking especially gloomy in the back of a warehouse. It’s awesome, and you can check it out by following the link to the Paper Bag RCRD LBL blog. Enjoy.

We recently saw New Zealand threesome Die! Die! Die! open for Wire at the South Street Seaport and though we’ve had their records and various MP3s for a while, we’d never witnessed them live, and it was quite a surprise. The band’s darkwave aesthetic totally translates on stage, and their Joy Division riffs and breakneck drums rolls party like it’s 1986. The Spaceland RCRD LBL blog has an awesome live version of Die! Die! Die!’s song “Blue Skies” from when they last stopped off in LA. It’s a searing morsel of sinister post-punk, so get into it!

Sounds like: Joy Division, the Sex Pistols, The Faint

We don’t know about you guys, but the new wave ruckus of Shy Child never gets old for us. Their record Noise Won’t Stop has been on heavy rotation here at RCRD LBL HQ and they just made a hot video for their new single “Astronaut” (coincidentally, we released an MP3 of Astronaut a few months back). Take a gander at the video, and download Astronaut below.

After the explosion of punk in the mid-to-late ‘70s, the general atmosphere was such that labels and audiences were open to a more extreme, experimental kind of rock and pop music, one with dry guitars, operatic vocals and rail-thin boys with very serious haircuts. Post-punk was born, and like punk before it, there were more bands than one could count, but unlike punk, they didn’t all follow a quasi-identical formula—the bands were diverse and their influences were broad. Anything from the white boy political funk of Gang of Four to the industrial noise of Throbbing Gristle to the sneering dub of Johnny Rotten/Lydon’s PiL had a home.

The Lines were one of those many bands that came out of the post-punk movement in England. Hailing from Wolerhamptoon, the band rarely gave interviews, didn’t tour, and basically existed only within the eight vinyl releases they birthed during their career. Luckily, Acute Records just released a compilation of most of their work, entitled Memory Span, which would fit nicely between Signals, Calls and Marches by Mission of Burma and Pink Flag by Wire in your record collection. We have three MP3s for download from the album today, so check them out and be amazed. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

Sounds like: Gang of Four, Wire, The Feelies

VIDEO THRWBCK: Devo - Whip It (1980)

We are so excited to see the crazy, inimitable Devo at McCarren Pool tonight. We've bizarrely never seen them live, and with Tom Tom Club opening, well... let's just say it will me a magical night to remember. "Whip It" is their crowning achievement, obviously, so enjoy that hot mess above.
