EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Dances With White Girls - I Wanna Dance (feat. Ariel)

Posted 12/2/2008 11:18 AM by Samuel Duke

Tags: house, electro, hip-house

On his MySpace page and bio, Dances With White Girls writes about, "the beginning and evolution of Thug House, the music to get you from the projects to Pacha." Hip-hop and house are certainly not strangers, but Dances' statement seems worth mentioning because it's so deliberate and self-aware, purposefully recalling certain places in order to mesh their respective vibes and we can get down with a guy as ambitious as that. It might be entirely in the head of dude (it probably is) but musically speaking it's pretty interesting. "I Wanna Dance," is essentially speedway electro-house, a track with the usual damaged bass and software synth chills that ditches four-on-the-floor for a pitched-down juke break. It's an exclusive we're dropping to remind you that Dances' debut EP, New Crack Swing, just hit shelves in November through Throne Of Blood, the imprint founded by this band you might know called The Rapture. If those dudes are co-signing you know you are downloading this already, and pick up the 12" over at Juno.

Sounds like: Kid Cudi, Streetlab, Weird Science

Diamond jewelry is a common gift for many 10th anniversaries. But for UK house label Drop Music, their gift to fans is Dust Till Dawn, a three disc collection of their favorite releases, exclusive remixes and unmixed classics. Drop Music serves as home base for producing duo Inland Knights, whose members, Laurence Richie and Andy Riley, also serve as label managers. Their tracks, like the funky and fizzy "I Feel This Way," gyrate between house, garage and disco styles with a go-go dancer's unctuous ease. The label recruited Miguel Migs, Crazy P and Chicago house legend Johnny Fiasco to remix Inland Knights tunes, with Fiasco slicing and dicing "Drop the Muzik" into a spiny house treat.

Sounds like: Miguel Migs, Akufen, Deep Dish

Just in time for their run of dates with El Guincho (starting tonight at the Empty Bottle in Chicago), we've got another heater from San Francisco outfit Lemonade. For nigh on three minutes, "Blissout" throws disco clang, big room house synths, and bongo samples into a metronomic juicer, then at 2:52 there's a break that our buds at TheFADER.com wrote sounds like, "the most fun drum circle ever." It's also the most house-y track on Lemonade's self-titled debut album, and we like it when bands try and write seven-minute house epics with rock instruments. Full Lemonade tour dates with El Guincho below.

Sounds like: Gang Gang Dance, Friendly Fires, Free Blood

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Treasure Fingers - Cross The Dancefloor (Designer Drugs Remix)

Treasure Fingers' irresistibly funky Fool's Gold debut "Cross The Dancefloor" has been a huge dance record ever since its release earlier this fall, with DJs rocking the vocoder-fueled original version in their sets alongside banging remixes from electro bigwigs Chromeo, Curses!, Laidback Luke, and Lifelike (which you can coincidentally grab right here). The latest producers to put their spin on "Dancefloor" are NYC's Designer Drugs, who stay faithful to the original track's melody but inject it with a massive bassline and a garage-y breakbeat all their own. Get ready for the rewinds!

Sounds like: Surkin, Weird Science, Jokers Of The Scene

It really was only a matter of time before Chromeo got the remix treatment from some of the producers and deejays signed to Fool's Gold, considering that Dave 1 and FG co-founder A-Trak are brothers and all. Fresh off their heavily anticpated debut single "Go On/Acid Life," Toronto jackmasters Nacho Lovers have given the once over to Chromeo's "100%" for Bacardi's B-LIVE series. One more remix on the way tomorrow so make sure to come back.

The Chromeo dudes contributed a remix of Treasure Fingers' "Cross The Dancefloor" to the Fool's Gold Scion A/V Remix compilation and now the man has returned the favor, remixing the Chromeo cut "100%" into a disco-house bomb with linguini synths and ready-for-the-floor beats for Bacardi's B-LIVE series. Stay tuned for more FG versions!

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Sun Ain't Shining No More (Thomas Gold Remix)

Posted 11/17/2008 12:02 PM by Faith-Ann Young

Tags: house, pop, soul

The Danish duo The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is all guilty pleasure: a whiff of 1970's psychedelic funk with a sprinkle of 1960s pop-soul and a whole lot of 2009 attitude. Mix in bumping Thomas Gold house and this remix of "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" becomes a recipe for an all-night dance-off. (After all, Gold is famous for turning up in Ibiza in full body glitter......) We warn you, keep an eye on this Danish act- before they start selling out concerts near you; catch 'em in NY this week at Pianos (November 19th) and at their GBH show @ Webster Hall on the 21st.

Sounds Like: Dusty Springfield, Amy Winehouse, Marvin Gaye, Ministry of Sound

DOWNLOAD: Thieves Like Us - Drugs In My Body (Long Version)

Posted 11/11/2008 10:27 AM by Samuel Duke

Tags: indie, house, french touch, pop, Samuel Duke

Throwing some filtered French touch steez atop what is essentially a two chord pop song, this extended version of Thieves Like Us' "Drugs In My Body" might be the most blasé tune about being intoxicated that we've heard in awhile. If Calvin Johnson started making tracks with DJ Falcon, it would sound exactly like this: classy Euro bump and cutesy playvoicing over it. It's pretty awesome, hence why we signed the group to RCRD LBL, so if you dig this make sure to go cop their album at your digital retailer of choice (iTunes, Amazon, eMusic)  The band's touring around beautiful Eastern Europe at the moment, DJ'ing and gigging their way through Croatia, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Over there, parties go well past dawn, so guys, this tune would be a perfect set-closer and sun-riser for you. Just saying. Dates below the tuneage.

Sounds like: DJ Falcon, Beat Happening, Le Knight Club

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Estate - Write To Make (Gigamesh Remix) + Let Her Know (Sonotech Remix)

Posted 11/3/2008 12:38 PM by Samuel Duke

Tags: electro, house, electronic, dance, Samuel Duke

More love from the Midwest in the form of two new remixes of Estate, the Minneapolis electro-pop duo we've talked about before. Dudes reached across borders and blocks for these tracks, commisioning hometown boy Gigamesh to work on "Write To Make" and lining up Venezuelan party-starter Sonotech to remix "Let Her Know". Both shoot nods to the big players right now--your Miami Horrors and your SebastiAns and their ilk--so if you've got A Cross The Universe and Part Of The Weekend Never Dies on your Christmas DVD list, these are probably for you.

Sounds like: Cut Copy, Treasure Fingers, Baby Diamonds
