INTERVIEW: The Morning Benders + DOWNLOAD: Crosseyed

The Morning Benders are good medicine. Whatever evolutionary magic gave melody the power to flutter our girly hearts, they got it figured out. Four dudes out of Berkeley, they turn the San Francisco Bay blues pink with perfect hooks on jangly air puffed gems that you can listen to 15 times over before you realize they're on repeat. Because they sing so sweet, we thought we'd give them a chance to do some talking, too. Figure they're probably pretty good at it.

Haven't we all been having this recurring old man conversation, usually conducted around assorted bags of chips and one record or another, asking way too animatedly, "What went wrong with the world that nobody makes music like this anymore? Do people hate money? Are they scared of fans?" I think we have. Well at least The Explorers Club has. You can tell because their new record, Freedom Wind, is a Beach Boys record, right down to the fake ringwear on the photo collage cover. Even better, it's one of those 'very special guest' episodes where The Beach Boys meet The Ronettes, blending hazy summer harmony with big city sleigh bells and million dollar smiles. Sure it's crazy derivative, but so are you (you look so much like mom). So am I. We might as well just get into it, right? Listen to this free song from The Explorers Club.
