Some artists never feel their work is done. Painters keep adding layers and colors, writers constantly go back and self-edit. DM Stith is releasing three EPs this season to orbit around his album Heavy Ghost, each stuffed with covers, demos and “remixes” that could be seen as restlessly tweaked-with versions of songs from the record. The album cut “Pigs” felt private, like we were listening in on a song written exclusively for conflicted angels. This version, which’ll be on November’s Thanksgiving Moon EP, is like the story Stith tells the rest of us about the song “Pigs,” which was something he really had to explain to the angels. Or you can just say he added some clattering metal and horns and gave “Pigs” a completely different profile on the emotional spectograph.

Asthmatic Kitty's evil folk scientists Castanets just deliver and deliver and deliver. Ray Raposa's keening croon, sinister time signatures and industrial undertones make his music unmistakable and all his own. Ancient super modern new gothic antique folk. And he's really growing into that prophet beard. "Sway" is a lowdown haunter. "Strong Animal" is a Bjorky remix and a total reinvention. Have them both.
