EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: L-Vis 1990 - Compass (Christian Martin Remix)
And the Sound Pellegrino barrage continues, this time as a single from massively sweated British producer L-Vis 1990 (a name that, god help us, we just realized is pronounced Elvis 1990.) Dude's borderline inscrutable, funky-leaning "Compass / Zahonda" is available now through Beatport, though the brains at Institubes are whetting ears with Christian Martin's percolating house refix from the flip. That MP3 is below, more info over at the Institubes RCRD LBL blog.

DOWNLOAD: Boy 8-Bit - Baltic Pine (Radio Edit)

Lemon sorbet please! Double cone! I'm not sure what this cut from Boy 8-Bit has to do with wood. It starts off sounding like the most beautiful ice-cream van you've ever seen - one that caters for lost people in the Sahara, perhaps - and ends like the collective wet dream of a Bavarian oompah band. Maybe Black Forest Gateau's the key. Anyhow, Dave Morris follows up his recent release through Diplo's Mad Decent imprint with something just as stellar, the original version of "Baltic Pine" to be found, along with three other tracks, on an EP of the same name out next week through This Is Music.

DOWNLOAD: Speech Debelle - Go Then, Bye (Photomachine And El-B Remix)

(Photo: Juliette Dalton)
Is it kosher if we count this Photomachine and El-B flip as part of the UK funky thing? It reminds us a little of bassline–the tunneled synths, the 2-step snares–but the arpeggios toward the end and the incessancy of the kick have us thinking house. So yea, we're gonna go with funky. If last week was a time for us to enjoy Speech Debelle's humbling, softsided originals, this remix is for like six hours later when we've had too many pints and get dropkicked on the dancefloor of some South London after hours for acting like fools.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Lethal Bizzle - Go Hard (Featuring Donaeo) (DJ Raph Remix)

I don't know what Lethal Bizzle's doing here, but it's definitely keeping my attention, which is what you'd imagine the man wants as he gets ready to flog his forthcoming third album. To be fair the original cut of "Go Hard" - a more dedicated UK funky clapper - is nowhere near as schizoid as this DJ Raph remix, which tries to cram so much into itself - grime, funky, old-skool house, what sounds like a Balkan string-section - that the impression is of a bar rep manically trying to recruit the drunken hordes to some dive on an infamous Balearic strip, all musical tribes greeted equally with free shots of absurdly strong booze and endless, blatant groping.
