This is not light music. It's the type of music that you allow yourself to float into while in a melancholic slumber, half awake, half asleep, half idle, and almost always alone. Like Frank Gehry's modern architecture, Brooklyn group mixes their tracks seamlessly so you can't tell where one layer begins and another ends; rather than analyzing the drum kicks versus the undulating synths, you focus on the overall piece and the psychological weight beneath it. Like their influences, Radiohead and Portishead, they are unafraid to delve into the darkness, their electronic instruments as paintbrushes.....Blast it loud; because, every once in a while, it's healthy to let go and sink into the dark side.

Sounds Like : Radiohead, Portishead, The Cocteau Twins

Image if the robotic vocal purrs of Ladytron playing tonsil hockey with the grunge-rock of The Duke Spirit. Such is the character of Shock Cinema's "Oddfellow": dark, demonic oscillating spirals of sound reverberating off a rock edge that is more suitable for caverns, bats, black-eyeliner, and strolling down dim-lit alleys with whiskey in brown-bags. It is a bit of a departure into the shadows from the airy, shimmering Peter Bjorn and John-esque number we posted prior, Shock Cinema's "Careful (Click Click)." However, like all forbidden fruit, it's too appealing to resist.

Bombastic and raucous would be two adjectives to describe Does It Offend You Yeah? when we caught them last Friday (5.16.08) at Highline Ballroom. There was jumping off of drum kits, running around off stage, and lots of riffing, purring, atari-simulating sounds. Favorites of the night? "We Are Rockstars" and "Let's Make Out," which got the crowd heaving to the electro-rock. Check out PICTURES for proof HERE. If you feel like having a stay-home dance party, check out the track, With A Heavy Heart I Regret To Inform You, below...
