It really was only a matter of time before Chromeo got the remix treatment from some of the producers and deejays signed to Fool's Gold, considering that Dave 1 and FG co-founder A-Trak are brothers and all. Coming correct for the final remix of "100%" is Bay Area producer Trackademicks, who keeps the jazz sax and but adds an uptempo bump underneath, a nice hip-hop flavored bookend to this collection of three. Grab all of them below!

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Red Wire Black Wire - Locked Out

We've had our eyes on these Wesleyan grads for a while but this time they bring us a poppier, hook-heavy track, "Locked Out." Who knew being getting fucked up and locked out of your casa could be so inspiring. But evidently it can be, with Red Wire Black Wire spit out cutting lyrics, heavy drums and breezy shoe-gaze guitar in the background. Meanwhile, we've had their decidedly darker "Compass" on repeat these days - it's fuzzed-out bass and twirling synths draw us in while references to "kill the old and pervert the youth" ensures the band never needs to worry about being classified as young and cute.
PS: They are hosting an 'erotic' record release party this Thursday @ NY's Lit Lounge, with bands Armchair and Deleted Scenes.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Chester French - She Loves Everybody (Neptunes Remix) + Original

Chester French is not one man with a slick name but a band of two who met as freshmen at Harvard, soon thereafter began making music together and somehow wound up becoming the new pet project of a one Pharrell Williams. Yes, that guy. While Max Drummey and D.A. Wallach's rise to almost-stardom is just short of unbelievable, one listen to their catchy electro-soul and the pieces begin to fit: these guys are the first producers to emerge from a group of kids that didn't grow up listening to hip-hop but still digested Neptunes beats through pop radio. In other words, Chester French specialize in the mechanical, futuristic bump of their heroes, mentors, and label bosses, but interpret it almost completely through the prism of post-Boy Band pop music, writing songs for the MGMT set that make MGMT sound like Slayer. The duo just released their debut EP, She Loves Everybody, through Star Trak, and, along with the original, we've got an exclusive Neptunes remix of the track up for download. On their version, Chad & Pharrell have basically invented the genre of Blade Runner Bmore, taking little more than the original's a capella and adding some processed breaks and Tron-worthy synth drops behind. It's pretty fresh stuff, specially available for you as part of our one-year-anniversary celebration. We'll be dropping a lot more exclusive awesomeness in the near future, so stick around for that.

The origins of bedroom pop music probably stretch back much further than this, but for my money the man ultimately responsible for the success of Lily Allen, Jamie T and every other homespun ‘MySpace sensation’ is none other than Jyoti Mishra, who – under his White Town guise – scored a Number One in the UK singles charts back in 1997. This contemporary interview from Wired tells how “Your Woman”, Mishra’s one and only hit, was produced in his bedroom using a Tascam 668 multi-track tape recorder and an Atari ST. It’s debatable, to say the least, whether or not the song’s rise from lair to the daytime playlists of BBC Radio 1 signalled the start of the end for major labels, but in 2008 Vincent Frank’s pop music sounds like a lament, anyway, for the lost glamour of off-limits sound stars and the room the teenage imagination had to manoeuvre around them. A bedroom pop star in the making himself, one of the two remixes of Frankmusik below comes from Christian of Croydon pals Party Shank, the other from Vincent himself. You’d think pop would be full from eating itself by now, but what one man gets up to in the comfort of his own bedroom isn’t anything to do with us.

Introducing: Poney Poney

Poney Poney started as a solo project. Antoine did a couple of shows with only a guitar and a borrowed iPod, which got promptly stolen. It was high time to draft friends Florent and Samuel on bass and drums.
"AM Music", "By The Numbers" and "Junior" were recorded pretty fast after that, with Xavier de Rosnay of Justice fame on production. The band started playing here and there, sharing the bill with 2 Many Djs, Justice, C.S.S., Sébastien Tellier, Midnight Juggernauts, These New Puritans, Ratatat, Das Pop, Simian Mobile Disco, Cut Copy, Poni Hoax, The Teenagers, The Presets, Kavinsky, PNAU, Scenario Rock and many other cool bands. Then, last Spring, Perspex Recordings put out Cross The Fader EP, with Xavier at the controls once again.
Now a duo, Poney Poney is putting together its sophomore EP. It's called WDYWSW? and was produced by Para One. I'll post some past material in the coming days, for the record.
EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Pase Rock - Get Money Kids + Video Contest

Pase Rock's party-rocking flow is relentless, a mile-a-minute gush of club-ready rhymes that'll blow the roof off of any room it invades. Yes, this is the dude who brought you "Lindsay Lohan's Revenge," and his new single "Get Money Kids" (off the "Get Money Kids / So Fucking Disco" single out Dec. 2) is even more hype, bolstered by some hot breaks from producer Eli Escobar and fleshed out with all matter of samples (horns, pianos, chopped vocals, etc.) and Pase's pumped-up verses. We're offering this up exclusively in conjunction with our bros at Dim Mak, who are also hosting a make-your-own video contest for the track. The winner will get some great swag and their video will be spread out across the internets, including this space right here. Flyer for the contest after the break.

DOWNLOAD: Jean Nipon - 4WD

The Institubes crew are back to bringing their stroboscopic mayhem, this time in the form of Jean Nipon's new single "4WD" from his Wild At Heart EP. Amidst some shotgun handclaps and a building break of sirens and aggro kick, Nipon ably destroys any semblence of tranquility in this track, and apparently this is dude's most straightforward offering. What else is there to do? Sample Throbbing Gristle and play it through a bullhorn? Head over to the Institubes RCRD LBL blog to get some more info on the man with the pet raven, and grab the full EP over at the Institubes site.

Unsunned

Unsunned is a new imprint we've just started, dedicated to rock, pop, disco and pure research. It is, in a nutshell, more about songs than about tracks.
Expect records by unknowns and semi-unknowns. The first wave of mutilation will start at the end of the month so we'll post regularly (hopefully...) about these new artists:
Plus one or two more I cannot talk about just yet. I'm tremendously proud to add this new chapter to the Institubes story. To be continued.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Lykke Li - Little Bit (AutoErotique Bootleg Remix)
.jpg)
Lykke Li is basically one iPod commerical away from being the Feist of 2008. Much like Leslie's hit last year The Reminder, Lykke's endlessly enjoyable album Youth Novels is proving a goldmine for blog-thinking producers, as edits and remixes of tracks like "Dance, Dance, Dance," and "Little Bit" have been making the rounds by the hundreds. Canadian ravers AutoErotique (once known under the moniker VNDLSM) have given their once-over to the latter, throwing some space highway synths and nu-electro thud over Lykke's coy vox. Our bros at Dim Mak gave us the exclusive on this one, so download away for your weekend needs.
