DOWNLOAD: TV On The Radio - Dancing Choose (Prefuse 73 Remix)

The lyrics of TV On The Radio's "Dancing Choose" holler sore at the idea of crooked news hounds distorting the truth to fit their own motives. The obvious thing to do with the track, then, is to call in someone to remix it - but despite the obvious ironies that lay behind Prefuse 73's re-working, the track's lyrical bite is only enhanced by the fizz and crackle Scott Herren surrounds it with, taut noise like a sprung'n'cut electrical wire flailing and lashing in back-alley puddles.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Roy Davis Jr. - I Have A Vision (feat. Erin Martin) (The Juan MacLean Remix)

Roy Davis Jr. is one of Chicago's most well-known and respected house music Dons. Soul-inflected uptempo tunes have remained his forte, carrying that flag through impeccably curated and mixed DJ sets the world over (hear a recent one from this past summer over at the Sunday Best website) and a discography that has spanned more than a few decades and sub-genres. Now the people at Scion A/V have turned a piece of Davis's music over to a more contemporary set of producers, soliciting versions of his tune "I Have A Vision (feat. Erin Martin)" for the next installment in their stellar ongoing remix series. We've been given an exclusive preview of our man The Juan MacLean's version, which is, in a nutshell, epic space war acid house; Larry Heard caught in Titan A.E. or something like that. Grab the track below, and look out for the official release of "I Have A Vision" on January 27th, featuring additional reworkings from legends-in-their-own-right Fred Falke and Todd Edwards.

DOWNLOAD: FreQ Nasty - Peacemaker (DUB) (feat. Propa Tingz)

FreQ Nasty, aka Fiji-born, New Zealand-raised Darin McFayden, was the producer behind "Creator," Santogold's supersonic swingbomb single that detonated many a dancefloor in '08 and just might be the best track on one of the year's most extremely well-received albums. While that beat was arguably his big break, Nasty has been making moves in the drum and bass and breaks scenes for over a decade, producing and deejaying an impressive amount of diverse, subsonic material that not only informed his work on "Creator" but also the labyrinthine, genre-hopping mix he made for Fabric this year, Fabriclive.42. "Peacemaker" appears in its original form in the early minutes of that mix, but this dub version--a grinding amalgam of dancehall, breaks, fidget-house, and high-energy dubstep--is tipped to appear on his pending new artist album, due sometime this year but still lacking an unconfirmed tracklisting, release date, or label. If "Creator" and his Fabric mix are anything to go by, he'll be shattering enough basebins and year-end lists to make us forget those gnarly white dude dreads.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Fol Chen - The Believers + The Believers (Epstein Remix feat. Zane One)

California dreaming goes down a dark path with Fol Chen's debut for Asthmatic Kitty, Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune's Made. Circling through the bellows of horns and tumbling down the dark paths of monotonously sterile beats, when Melissa Thorne coos "don't follow me," in "The Believers," it's hard to tell if she's telling you to stay away or beckoning down the rabbit hole. Epstein keeps the nightmare carnival horns, adds even more disjointed rhythms and Zane One warns of the impending doom for believers. If scary Santa is your thing, grab these two from Fol Chen.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Dino Felipe - Don't Hang Around (Allegro)

With the holidays fast approaching and snow falling on Manhattan, let's all huddle around the internet fire and enjoy some art-damaged Floridian noisepop. Mr. Felipe has put out about 7,248 records independently and on various labels, and today he splashes into the RCRD LBL pool with "Don't Hang Around (Allegro)". I haven't studied music theory in 15 years or so, but I'm pretty sure that the tempo is closer to moderato. Either way its a buzzbomb pop confection that mixes in just the right amount of weird to keep things afloat.

Watching Mr. Bookish do his thing in London town last week, my mind made the quick shift from concertgoer to musicblogger, and I started listening for the song I hoped to grab for your listening pleasure. I'm happy to present "Synchrotron", a track that distills the energy and intelligence that radiates from Everything/Everything, Simon's new record on German electronic label Tomlab. It takes a great deal of stick (and skill) to compose an album of paranoid pop arranged for sax, brass, harp, piano and organ, and even more to perform it live wearing your "jazz trousers." Let's hear it for the boy.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Flying Lotus Remix)

At this point everyone has an opinion on Kanye West's new album 808s & Heartbreak and more specifically his single "Love Lockdown," so we'll leave that discussion behind and instead turn to this mind-melting new remix of the single from our perennial favorite Flying Lotus. Using only the main vocal stem from the original, FlyLo has built a moist, aromatic swamp around 'Yes lead, with collapsing shards of percussion and amorphous tempos (sometimes the vocal seems to get lost, but just go with it, it works out.) It's par-for-the-course for the celebrated producer and deejay, who just nabbed the nod as Pitchfork's 28th best record of 2008 for his Warp debut Los Angeles. Next year brings his installment in !K7's celebrated DJ Kicks series next, which, if his Essential Mix for BBC's Radio 1 is anything to go by, it's going to be pretty extensive and trippy.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Flying Lotus Remix)

Steve Ellison never seems to stop working. Hot on the heels of Kanye's much-discussed SNL appearance he has put together a murky, tweaked Burial-esque remix of "Love Lockdown" that leaves Kanye's autotuned vox swimming in reverb and under clattering rainy-day percussion. As is becoming his hallmark, the Lotus remix turns the original upside-down and casts it in a new atmosphere, making it hard not to perk up your ears and say "whoah".
With praise coming from every direction it would seem easy for Flying Lotus to rest on the strength of his accomplishments, however he’s doing no such thing. In the wake of Los Angeles release, he was hard at work in the lab putting the finishing touches on a series of LA EPs as well as remixes for Stereolab, Blank Blue and the aforementioned Radiohead. LA EP 1X3 reprised a pair of album tracks alongside mind-blowing new jams like “Rickshaw” and “Paper Crane Gang” while LA EP 2X3 sees tracks being remixed by Martyn, Samiyam, Nosaj Thing, Ras G and others. The third EP in the series remains a mystery, but rest assured it will be an excellent prelude to Flying Lotus’ installment in the seminal DJ-Kicks mix series next year.
EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Bug Lung Baby - Trilobite Trash EP
Bug Lung Baby is Jonathan Visger--lead singer and songwriter of Michigan indie group Mason Proper--and Trilobite Trash is the second EP of solo compositions he's put out this year, available for free exclusively here on RCRD LBL. While MP's slept on September disc Olly Oxen Free (Dovecote) saw the band messing with tighter, beat-heavy passages, Trilobite dives headfirst into that pool, a fifteen-minute opus of modern laptop music that has its fingers submerged in pop, hip-hop, funk, dubstep and ambient sounds. It's a pretty remarkable and focused record for a side project, loaded with inventive melodies (sunny opener "This Life") and rhythmic heft (the midnight dub funk of closer "Paper Crane") and, honestly, sounds incredibly human for being written, recorded, produced, arranged, mixed, and mastered entirely by one dude (Visger). Get into it below, and if you like what you hear, go pick up Jon's first 2008 EP North South Part I at Secret Tunnel Group and Mason Proper's Olly Oxen Free over at Insound.

DOWNLOAD: Filastine - Fitnah (feat. Jessika Skeletalia Kenney)

The press release and biography for Barcelona-based producer Filastine reads like a pitch for a Current TV travel show: "You might have caught him at a club in London, on a junk raft floating down the Mississippi, at Shambhala festival in British Columbia, at a tiny breakcore party in Osaka, or in front of forty thousand at the Boulevards festival in Casablanca." Rather unsurprising then that dude isn't just peddling some stock dance rhythms for satin-shirted masses, instead working a bass-driven brew of breaks, blasts, and globally-culled melodies, exemplified here on "Fitnah" from his new album Dirty Bomb (out in February through DJ /rupture's Soot label.) After a collage of Theremin whine and handclaps, the tune brings itself to its feet with Whack-A-Mole percussion hits and coarse synth throb, vocalist Jessika Skeletalia Kenney laying Middle Eastern smoke over it all. In days when songs like "Arab Money" get dissected for their supposed intentions, it's nice to hear some globally adventurous music that isn't trying to be anything other than itself.
