- Bio: Three critically acclaimed albums, seven singles (two in the top 20) and a cluster of mix-tapes later (not counting the many solo projects from the various crew members) and Roll Deep have gone from strength to strength, opening many doors for the UK music scene. After a successful career so far, Roll Deep have proved that there is more to them than the brutal, stripped-down sounds with which the word Grime is normally associated.
Roll Deep Recordings are putting out a compilation of the story so far featuring all the classic tracks from their three albums and including previously unreleased material from the early Roll Deep catalogue. It is called Street Anthems. An apt title considering the blend of mainstream and underground acclaim they have received to date. The record is a compelling mix of their accessible pop tunes like "Avenue" and "Shake a Leg" masterfully arranged alongside the more dark and ferocious “When Im Ere” and “Badman”. The arrangement is key too because the result is one really engaging record whether you know these songs inside out or not. If the world needs a reminder that Roll Deep are one of the most credible and entertaining grime acts around then this is it. (less)
