A conscious swing defines the work of this artist considered one of the most talented of the Brazilian music new generation. On his first solo album, “Do Oiapoque a Nova York” (From Oiapoque to New York), Renegado gathers 13 songs, feeling at easy with many styles and bringing down barriers with mixes of rap and other Brazilian and Latin rhythms. “Do Oiapoque a Nova York” speaks out against social matters and at the same time puts everybody on the dance floor, fascinating the ones who look for intelligent lyrics as well as the ones who simply want to have fun.

Daniel Ganjaman, one of the best producers today, signs the album. He is part of the well-known São Paulo collective called Instituto (Institute), and has also signed works with Racionais, Mombojó and Otto, among others. To him, “Do Oiapoque a Nova York” is a different album in the Brazilian hip-hop scenario because of its sound diversity and its lyrics. “I think Renagado has come to a middle term between rap made in the suburbs and poetry and verse in the Brazilian popular music as a whole”, he explains.

He is not an ordinary hip-hop artist. Renegado is also an instrumentalist and a guitar player, playing in the middle of electronic beats coming from ragamuffin and rap. This gives a richer and diversified sound to the album, differently from the traditional rap sound. The guests that take part in the album highlight the absence of music frontiers. From São Paulo, hip-hop artists Funk Buia (Záfrica Brasil) and Max B.O; from the Brazilian popular music of Minas, Aline Calixto and Júlia Ribas; and from the Latin-American music, Cubans Alayo, who came to Brazil specially to record this album, and Cubanito, who lives in Belo Horizonte. Also featuring on the album, master Gil Amâncio and the delicate sound of Meninas de Sinhá, awarded in the Tim Awards and coming from Alto Vera Cruz community, where Renegado lives in.

“Do Oiapoque a Nova York” is an independent album to be released on August 26th, in two special editions: one sold for R$5.00, a popular price, and the other sold for R$15.00). It will also be available to listen online at www.arebeldia.com.br the same day. This way, the album will be available for everybody to listen without distinction. Two videos are being produced and will be released after the album is released: “Renegado”, directed by video maker César Maurício and “Conexão Alto Vera Cruz / Havana” (Alto Vera Cruz / Habana Connection) directed by Denis Leroy, who signs the graphic arts and the site of the artist as well.

    About RENEGADO
Renegado is a Brazilian rapper, born and raised in the slums of Alto Vera Cruz, in the city of Belo Horizonte. Autodidact, this musician started singing when he was 13 years old, while beginning to participate in social movements. In 1997, he was one of the founders of the rap group NUC (Black on the Conscious Unity group), performing all over Brazil, South American countries, Africa and Cuba. After that, NUC became an NGO, presided by Renegado, who develops social and cultural works with young people in poor communities, focusing on Alto Vera Cruz.

Since 2006, after producer Danusa Carvalho invited him to perform at Stereoteca, Renegado has been performing solo, achieving experience and performing in shows together with other artists. Renegado incorporates in his solo career musical references as reggae, maracatú, Cuban music, samba and other influences of traditional Brazilian culture and regional traditions, without leaving aside the traditional characteristics of American rap and social issues of the Brazilian rap.
