whilst studying sound engineering at a Parisian college, and soon found they shared of love of The Beatles, New Order, Talking Heads and TV On The Radio.
In 2004, Nelson started a club night in Paris at Bar 3, to provide a platform to all the rock'n'roll bands on the Paris scene that had nowhere to showcase their bands before, and in its short lifespan it became a huge success. "Every Parisian band that is hyped now can tell you a story about Bar 3" remarks Devay - and indeed it gave Nelson, a much earned ticket to the UK scene.
Nelson could be met with many comparisons; Interpol crossed with The Rapture or Joy Division meets Animal Collective. HoweverRevolving Doors highlights the many aspects that make up Nelson's sound; Silence in Your Mind has the feel of a dirty dingy disco, whilst People and Thieves has a distinct garage rock sound. Their terrifically catchy debut single, I (SYC) Stop, released in July is an urgent and sinister track, "Now you choke on a rotten straw" and The (Over) Song, set for release on 22nd September, just ahead of the album, is powerful, melodious and foreboding, only enhanced by the storming riffs present. It has a military-esque feel and with the repetition of "This is not over", you can feel the impending battle looming ahead. Inside is also another gem on the album and Revolving Doors ends with two epic tracks, in fact the last 100 seconds is just a pumping heart reminding us that Nelson have more to offer us in the future.
Nelson manage to incorporate tight guitars with delicate synths creating a sinister yet vulnerable environment for the listener, and Revolving Doors' passive aggressiveness sounds as though someone is about to go over the edge, but Nelson manage to keep it all under control.
The quartet recently played Stage of the Art at ICA with These New Puritans and Zombie Zombie, and will return to the UK in September in support of the album, where undoubtedly they will be winning over many new fans.
