Bio: "My Love is a Good Look" marks the debut of the new, unsigned blues-rock quartet which formed in February of 2008. Chicago Stone Lightning Band ... (more) features veteran players from Boas, Chisel, Perfect Panther, The Civilized Age, Edsel and Plastic Crimewave Sound. "My Love is a Good Look" was recorded live to magnetic tape in July with Zach Goheen producing in the band's own Lightning Land Studios. Chicago Stone Lightning Band is Ben Pirani - guitar, vocals, harp Gabe McDonough - bass Nick Myers - guitar and John Dugan - drum kit. This summer the Midwest metropolis of Chicago was rocked by intense electrical storms that left babies wailing, adults running for cover and old timers scratching their heads wondering about "these damn kids today" and "goddamn global climate change." The explosive skies were no accident, however. They had been summoned by a four-man musical group called the Chicago Stone Lightning Band to announce a new arrival on this city's storied musical stage. The quartet had only recently come together, but with its member's experience in mod, punk, indie, psych and hardcore bands the CSLB had fused quickly and mightily. It quickly set to work retooling blues numbers by Howlin' Wolf and Mose Allison to the specifications of its own dual guitar assault and colorful rhythm section. With only a handful of live gigs under its belt—beginning with a live debut in April at the Empty Bottle—the band called upon sonic wizard Zach Goheen to capture its newly birthed original songs and timeless sound—a boogie brew of blues, rock and soul power that grabs for the throat and insists on vigorous hip-shaking and after-hours love-making. Before the tape had even been mixed, the boys headed to the country for a summer day of filming with visual wunderkind Ben Chappell. The results speak for themselves, but ask yourself, does the average big budget action flick pack as many gorgeous bad-ass babes, rays of sunshine, loaded automatic weapons and propeller airplane chases into its first five minutes? Thought not. So hang on tight good people this is only the beginning of the Chicago Stone Lightning Band. (less)
