The eternal quest: for rock n' roll that uses cliche not for safety but for fuel to burn on the plunge into so many new nights, for guitar music awakened from its riff-bound tether, for noise that can drench you in a cold bucket of hope rather than boil the juices in your ears til they're tasteblind. This track from Alec Empire's new mini-album Shivers (out May 25) is a bloody revelation and you should throw whatever preconceptions you have about the Berliner into the sea. Good time electro-noise-rock in the XTRMNTR vein, with Hunches style throw-another-guitar-on-top production and the erudite, proclamatory utterances of a battle-ready Nick Cave. The Big Pink's Robbie Furze, who played guitar with Empire before his new band's formation and subsequent rise into uber-hyped acclaim, returns here to add the voice of another delirious guitar to the clamour.
