PHOTOS: FINAL AUSTIN 2009 RND UP - Memorable Photos, Bands, & Trends

Best Grillz in Austin: Above on "Big Momma" (or at least that's what she told us her name was.) Taken On Red River and 6th.
During SXSW week, RCRD LBL posted 63 new artists, rocking a total of 73 tracks of artists performing in Austin during that time. (See full list here.) Meanwhile, we had a blast in the sun. Below are some of the more memorable photos, bands, trends, and late night dinner finds from SXSW 2009 this year as well as some valuable info worth knowing for next year.
PS Thanks to all those who made SXSW 2009 a wicked week of music (including our super production team who made it all possible)!
BEST OF AUSTIN 2009:
Favorite Austin Venues To See Shows: Mohawk, French Legation, The Levi's®/FADER Fort.
Austin Venues That Made Listening Hard: Habana St Backyard (because of the sound), Cedar Street Courtyard for Grizzly Bear (which was so packed the cops came).
Exciting Live Performances in Austin 2009 (in no particular order): Heartless Bastards, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Dan Auberbach, Wavves, Black Joe Lewis & The Honey Bears, Primal Scream, PJ Harvey, Young Galaxy, Arkells, Late Of The Pier, The Forms, We Have Band, Wooden Birds. (Sorry; this is a subjective list because we couldn't see everyone - though we tried really hard.)
Ridiculous(ly Awesome) Non-Official Live Performances in Austin 2009: Jane's Addiction, Kayne West, Tricky, Metallica.
Cool, Free Late Night Parties (where Last Nights Party's Bronques made obvious appearances): Playboy/C3 After Hours Party (with Jane's Addiction), Imeem SXSW Close-Out Party
Best Surprise Guests: Erykah Badu and Common (and the 20 other surprise guests) with Kayne West at Levi's®/FADER Fort - Saturday Night, Kanye West n Crew @ Perez Hilton - Saturday Night, Victoria LeGrand of Beach House with Grizzly Bear at Cedar Street Showcase Friday Night.
Best Band Meltdown: Late of the Pier (who walked off the stage due to bad sound @ Levi's®/FADER Fort), Passion Pit (who screamed at the "bloggers out there" for writing negative blog posts about them).
Band Names That We Found Really Hard To Say Out Loud: Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, We Have Band, MM_DD_YYYY.
Band Names We Wished We Thought Of First: We Were Promised Jetpacks.
Best Beer: Lonestar.
Worst Beer: Lonestar.
Best <5 Late Night Meal: Taco Truck @ Red River/ 7th, Empanada Truck @ Brazos/5th
Best BBQ IN Austin: Salt Licks (ok, it's way outside the city center, in a place called Driftwood, TX, but it's carnivore heaven), Bill Miller
Most Dismal Industry News Post-Festival: We still haven't heard of 1 band that was signed to a label due to SXSW (and we asked around. If you know of one, holler...)
Coolest SXSW Spotting: Bill Bradley on the street, Margaret Cho on street, Ben Harper @ The airport.
Most Ubiquitous Fashion Trend: Fem-tats (Tattoos on chicks)...
Worst Fashion Trend: "Skinny Jorts" (skinny jean shorts), girls with feathers in their hair.

Tons of Fem-tats @ Radio Room.

Best on-stage good luck charm: James Brown Rubber Ducky @ Black Joe Lewis And The Honey Bears.

Most Inappropriate Outfit on East 6th Street: Group of boys (above) in uber-tight, full-body metallic spandex and neon back-backs giving away promotional band material. (Trust me; you don't want to see a picture of the waist down.)

Flowers and fem-tats.

Jane's Addiction Reunion @ C3/Playboy Party.

Kid Cudi getting emotional @ Kayne West's Close-Out @ Levi's®/FADER Fort on Saturday.

Cutest Kid of the Festival: He's got knife, fork, headphones and the Museum of American Soul Music T-shirt on. What a lil stud.

Cool Ad-hoc Crowd Pleaser: Peter Moren of Peter, Bjorn & John's jumping into the front row and playing on a crowd member's shoulder during Cedar Street Showcase, Friday Night.

Victoria LeGrand of Beach House onstage with Grizzly Bear.

Best Overall Surprise: Erykah Badu @ Levi's®/FADER Fort & Perez Hilton. Who doesn't like Erykah?
