The by:Larm festival held in Oslo, Norway is (to oversimplify) the Scandinavian SXSW.  3 days and nights featuring multiple shows by more than 220 bands from Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland watched by crowds full of people from those countries who all unabashedly sing and clap along when prompted to do so.

Pony the Pirate, from Oslo, at times had six or seven people all singing on stage in unison and that kind of unbridled participation bled into the crowd.  Listening to the continuous build in "Walk the Shame," you can imagine the kind of frenzy excited and willing crowds were whipped into.  There's a lot happening on stage at a Pony the Pirate show: horns, sax, keys, xylophone, melodophone and nearly everyone on stage singing and shouting along.  This is pop music of the highest, most jubilant order.

Sounds Like: Arcade Fire, Yeasayer, Gentleman Auction House
