EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Misstress Barbara - is it ok? (ft. Sweet Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John)

Posted 2/20/2009 9:00 AM by Steve Mizek

Tags: vocals, electro, pop, techno

Misstress Barbara has changed a lot since her early days (and nights) spent crushing eardrums with relentless hard techno sets. The Sicilian-born, Canadian-raised producer’s forthcoming debut LP, I’m No Human, has more in common with her DJ sets for stadium-sized crowds: there's something for everyone. If tracks like “is it ok?” are any indication, the album is built around song structures rather than DJ-ready tracks. Featuring "Sweet" Bjorn Yttling of indie rockers Peter, Bjorn and John, the tune pits his deep pipes and her sultry vocals against vivacious violin riffs and a thrumming technoid beat. But the clearest sign of her evolution is the lead single, a smoldering cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love.”

Sounds like: Ane Brun, Carl Craig, Miss Kitten
