"The Noise Thereafter" by From Monument to Masses completely sucks you in and allows you to enter the gates of the passionate world of instrumental post-rock on a metaphorically massive golden bus, or perhaps another large, assuming vehicle. Like any song without vocals should, the song is enthrallingly catching and takes you through a phenomenal rock soundscape that plays out like a story, with its ebs and flows. It beckons you, the listener, to utilize your imagination and create your own story; your own dialog, if you feel so inclined. The song is one of my favorite post-rock songs, by one of my favorite post-rock bands, who unsurprisingly happen to be one of my favorite Dim Mak bands. Hell, I think the song might just be one of my favorite songs in my overall catalog (which is quite extensive). The instrumentation is so deeply lush and certain guitar riffs definitely provoke one to bust out some air guitar, wherever you might be at the time. After the marvelous intro, the song rocks along for a while and then at 3:11 my favorite section begins with intricate guitar licks leading up to 3:35 - OH WOW - a set of catchy-as-hell rock breakdown parts. So, so, so excellente! The song continues and wraps up nicely, leaving you in a state of exhuburance! No pretentious vocals or poorly-writen lyrics in the way of keep you from enjoying the devout wonderfulness that is From Monument to Masses. Enjoy the song and pick up their albums; they will all make you feel absolutely delightful inside. And, spend some exciting yourself for their upcoming album, "On Little Known Frequencies", which arrives in Jan/Feb 2009 - it is spellbounding! You can listen to a track off it, "Beyond God and Elvis", on their myspace page here: http://www.myspace.com/frommonumenttomasses. Enjoy!
