Above you'll find an easily embeddable widget that features the first new music from actor, activist and musician Mos Def in more than two years. "Life In Marvelous Times," the lead single from his upcoming album The Ecstatic (out November 4 through Downtown) features a cavernous and slamming beat from Mr. Flash, and Mos's voice is sounding as poetic and confident as ever. The thing about Mos that

The thing about Mos that separates him from so many other 'hip-hop' artist is his ability to take you there. This track has played on my computer about 3 times and every time I hear it I’m drawn in that much more. You have to listen, or you'll miss it, so as you concentrate listening you feel every word, in every sentence in every verse. There’s no catchy hooks, or lame metaphors, it’s real. Come on, lets all be honest...hip-hop has been dead for a while. And not dead in the sense as it doesn’t exist, but dead as in no effort or art is put behind it. Although it has always been fun, the bs we have today is past fun, and borderline ignorant. It seems as if anybody can get a deal today, with bass, a sample, and some bs lyrics. But with real artist such as Mos, Kanye, Q-Tip & Common dropping albums soon... I can feel its heart start to beat slowly.

This is very true and thank

This is very true and thank you for bringing it up. Mos makes me so excited. I listen with my ears wide open on the edge of my seat. I often listen over and over to be sure I heard and understand ever little bit. I flip around to see what else is going on and I see Jay-Z and Kyane (sorry I don't like him, He is an arrogant ass.) Any way it's so boring. The beats suck and the lyrics are just the same words repeated over and over. Words that have no meaning that just perpetuate negative stereotypes and bring down the weak ones as a whole. These are the people creating the empty tummies with gold teeth.

Word!

Everything Mos has done is

Everything Mos has done is dope. Dont even try and act like Kanye is real.

This is nothing like black

This is nothing like black on Both sides. Mos's style is just diminishing. I don't feel we'll ever have the old Mos Back. This is just half-assed rappin over a beat taht has way too much goin on in it.
