The Swiss are known for their fondue, war-time passivity, banks, chocolate, and Army-brand cutlery. They do these things well and make sure everyone knows that. The Swiss are kind of like Kanye West, I guess. Swiss duo Larytta are awesome for none of the usual Swiss things, though they are equally as adept at making quirky playground electronic music, tire-swing raving for kids who might’ve eaten the glue or a piece of Day-Glo sidewalk chalk. Packing in ATL rap thump, big room house vocoders, Euro folk-pop strumming, vocals that squirm from one range to another and a mess of other noises you wouldn’t believe are actually on there, Larytta’s new album Difficult Fun (out October 3 through Creaked) is the most aptly named record of the year. Less “difficult” in the sense of it being hard to grasp or wrap your head around and more “difficult” in the sense that it seems to be imploding on itself, held together by a weary Ableton metronome and the capable Swiss-ness of the two men who are Larytta.
