EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Grampall Jookabox - The Steamboat Gothic Stomp
.jpg)
There was this game I played as a little kid, where I'd sit in a circle with 5 other mates and we'd clap our hands together and start rhyming? Once one person finished the sentence, the next in the circle would start randomly rhyming along to the beat? Then again, this was back when I lived in Vancouver, where most of my playmates were all raised by hippies with pyromaniac tendencies. So there's a mild possibility that game only transpired in the land of maple leaves and a whole lot of 'eh.'
Regardless, this new song by Grampall Jookabox is a similar stream-of-conscious rhyming game. The rhyme-speak begins in frantic freakish tone and slowly progresses into various forms of confession and nonsense, with the aid of knee-slapping, tambourine, home-made-drum-tapping and references to moonshine and sons-o-bitches. The second track "The Girl Ain't Preggers" has similar schizophrenic avante-garde folk feel- like Arcade Fire did a lot of cocaine and started to bang on every instrument on stage.
SOUNDS LIKE: Arcade Fire, Daniel Johnston, Born Ruffians
