EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: DJ SPOOKY - One Laptop Theme (& NYC EVENT)

While other DJs are feeding Manhattan's hipsters escapist electro grinds to forget reality, digital renaissance man, DJ Spooky the Sublimal Kid, is biting down and probing at today's digital issues - through words, music AND art.

The track below, One Laptop Theme, has R & B attitude woven together with a glitched out electro beat and is probably cloaked in subliminal messages. It's from a compilation CD of avante-garde mixes by Sonic Youth and Nam Jun Paik and others that's tucked in the back of DJ Spooky's equally ambitious new book, Sound Unbound. Sound Unbound is chock-a-block full of philosophical ideas about the digital music today and tomorrow. In one chapter, Moby talks about the future of music and buying an island with monkeys trained to use automatic weapons. Another chapter's got wordsmith wunderkind Saul Williams discussing The Future of Language. Packs in serious bang for the buck.

Intrigued? Tomorrow at The Helen Mills Theatre, DJ Spooky is discussing his work- along with another author, Cory Doctorow- and then spinning at Sutra Lounge in NYC's east village afterwards. No doubt other digital wild cat musicians will be prowling behind those doors. Check it: http://www.cbldf.org/pr/archives/000367.shtml and tastetest the track below.
