Instruments of the Devil

First off thanks for checking out the Artifact Shore page on RCRD LBL. The band is very excited about having some songs available on the site and very much look forward to new Artifact Shore RCRD LBL releases. Also a quick thank you to everyone who came out to see us and our Spring shows (SXSW, Minneapolis and beyond) very much appreciated and should have some new dates booked very soon.
Joe and I just did a performance on a very cool Minneapolis radio show called nowlikephotographs. It is an instrumental music show broadcast on Radio K (770 AM & 106.5/100.7 FM) from the University of Minnesota Campus. It is a weekly show featuring as you may have imagined instrumental music. We went for a bit of the ol' noise/psych route for the show....
Here is a link to the 770 show. We are on episode CLXXVI - 2008.05.07.
The song we did was loosely based on an old unfinished psychedelic thing named 'My Demon Brother'. Which is in reference to a Kenneth Anger film named Invocation Of My Demon Brother. Great short film from 1969 featuring a Mick Jagger synthesizer score and stars Kenneth Anger, Bobby Beausoleil, and Anton LaVey (there is also archive footage of Mick Jagger, Anita Pallenberg and Keith Richards). You can find footage of Invocation of My Demon Brother around on the internet (am not finding a great link at the moment).

We then spent a little time in the 770 studio and played a couple songs: David Bowie's Warszawa and the opening track of the Kenneth Anger film Lucifer Rising which came out in 1972 (which features Kenneth Anger, Marianne Faithfull, Jimmy Page amongst others), but the sound track was redone in 1980 or 81 I cannot remember by the above mentioned Bobby Beausoleil who actually recorded his version of the soundtrack from prison with The Freedom Orchestra (he is serving a life sentence for the Manson Family related murder of Gary Hinman) after Kenneth Anger had fired Jimmy Page from his recording of the original soundtrack. Anyway, the soundtrack and the film are both quite amazing.

I think that is all for the first Artifact Shore blog entry. Check back we will try to post regularly. We are currently finishing up some recording so we will keep all updated as everyone waits with bated breath... Thanks again for all the support!
