Exclusive: Fink demo for download
For fans of LOST (and who isn't these days), you may have noticed a subtle, beautiful song with a male vocal playing on the radio in the last episode. The song was Bonobo's "If You Stayed Over", and we were stoked to learn that the voice on the track was that of an incredibly talented vocalist/artist named Fink.
Fink is a UK-based artist/singer-songwriter/producer/DJ from Bristol who in the past has put out nice hazy, sample-based turntable records. His 1999 Ninja Tune debut "Fresh Produce" introduced us to this talent, and his 2006 album "Biscuits For Breakfast" was notable for announcing the arrival of Ninja Tune's first ever singer-songwriter. His latest full length "Distance And Time" - released today on iTunes and in stores - continues on that welcome trajectory. Almost out of nowhere Fink blindsided us with a keen sense of songwriting and craftsmanship that rivals peers Jose Gonzales and Magnet. He impressed Nigel Godrich so much that Fink will perform live on an upcoming installment of Godrich's heralded "From The Basement" series.
Naturally, if we can compare him to Gonzales and Magnet, his songs sync well to beautiful visual media. Besides the LOST use, songs off his new album have already appeared in a 3-month UK MasterCard ad and various European films and TV shows. A video is out for the album's first single "This Is The Thing" (stream it above). Also worth checking out is the video's "making of" which is available here.
Ninja Tune, purveyors of dope shit since 1990, have generously offered up an unreleased demo of Fink's "Make It Good", which features the same lyrics as his performance in the Bonobo track that made into LOST. Download it exclusively here:
