Port O’Brien’s All We Could Do Was Sing (out May 13th) was inspired from summers spent in Alaska, where the lead singer Van Pierszalowski served as fisherman on his dad’s fishing boat, (um- once he didn't shower for 28 days straight) and other members worked at a cannery. Serious lonliness and angst unleashed some powerful, feverish folk songs - Port O’Brien’s "I Woke Up Today" is sing-till-your-voice-is-gone folk fury, windblown and raw. After a few listens, you too may get the distinct sensation you are part of Zissou's crew- singing and swaying in a boat, starting at a barren sea, praying you remembered your flask of whiskey.

P.S. Some more fun facts from the band? The banjo player is named Cambria, and she is from the town called Cambria. The Drummer Josh Barnhart lives in Santa Cruz and eats Republicans daily. The Bass player Caleb's name is Caleb Nichols. Just like the Marissa's grandfather on the OC. And guitartist and singer Zeb's real name is Zebedee Zates. No joke.
