DOWNLOAD: Wintersleep - Weighty Ghost
.jpg)
Good morning. True- I don’t know a hell of a lot about Nova Scotia, except they make damn good salmon on my New York bagels. But this song, "Weighty Ghost," by Nova Scotia’s Wintersleep, makes me think maybe I should.
Few songs I listen to become life anthems these days- most give me the good kick that I need on a treadmill or a nice 2-minute respite from rush hour traffic. But "Weighty Ghost" is the type of caliber of song you can play on repeat all day, without wanting to pound your head into a wall. I dare you.
Like those black and white Rorschach inkblot psychology cards, a song morphs into something different for every listener- For me, "Weighty Ghost" takes me to an artic soundscape covered in a thick layer of untouched snow. Day dreams float over top, maybe a bird or two, but otherwise there’s no sign of human life, or the ghost that singer Paul Murphy is searching for in the song.
Hmm, well, I’ll let you create your own daydreams and get lost in the Arcade Fire-esque crescendoing hook. But it’s worth mention that, though the Canadian indie rockers have yet to release their new full album Welcome to the Night Sky stateside (whimper, sniff, pout,) the full digital download is available on their website. Now that I am done with my morning lecture, I'll close with a recommendation to listen while munching on lox and bagels - to get the true Nova Scotia experience.
