The four dead deer inspectors in that photograph are Sisters Of Transistors, a quartet of female organ players from Manchester. Someone missing from that picture is Graham Massey, founding member of legendary Mancunian house outfit 808 State. Massey plays drums live with his Sisters and it's his conceptual project. Conceptual?! Yeah, prog-talk, but the concepts here are ones even dead deer could dance to, as these stunning remixes from UK producers Untold (bass) and eLDOKO (disco) attest.

Fan Death has always made disco sound dangerous. But this killer remix by Toronto duo CCENTURIESS whips “Reunited” into black sky oblivion. Weaving in and out of Dandilion and Marta’s milk-soaked vocals is a roller-derby darkness that devolves into claps and clangs, and finally, a tinny, apocalyptic wheeze that’ll put a stint in your aorta a day early.

Every part of this Best Coast song adds to its effortlessness: the slow open, the major/minor chord changes, the harmonies that blow in for the refrain, the bridge mantra ("I hate sleeping alone.") This is what we wish Weezer records still sounded like, obvious gender issues aside. Buy the full single from Black Iris over at iTunes.

Instrumental metal is either your thing or it isn't, unless we're talking about Pelican. They're not Sunn O))), you know? Dudes aren't soft, but the sludge they kick around is more cerebral than it is oppressive. And you don't have to know Calculus to find the first beat of a measure. And some dude who really worships Phil Anselmo isn't deepthroating the mic. It's approachable stuff. "Specks Of Light" is from their new LP for Southern Lord, What We All Come To Need. They're also headed out on tour come Saturday–those dates are after the break.

I know what you're thinking, but Othello Woolf isn't just a copy of that other theatrical singing Wolf from London. One less 'o' for a start, and his sound is more louche and relaxed than Patrick's heavy breathing, Golden Silvers' remix of "Stand" acknowledging that with bass that bomps along neatly and funked guitars that strut like a man who's cool with what he's got.

We’re feeling the basement baby slide of Phil and the Osophers’ unreleased and woeful lounge ballad “Wandering Soul,” slated to score the upcoming indie flick Un Petite Zone De Turbulences. If the track’s any indication, we expect long shots of Marseilles and Unione Corse corpses in back alleys (please let this be true). More ramshackle, wallpaper-peeling surf is available below; album Parallelo is out now and can be snapped up here.

2009 was mostly absent of Shy Child, as the New York drums and keytar duo took their time working on new LP Liquid Love, which is due in March. When announcing the album earlier this month, they also let go of "Criss Cross," a brawny, saturated disco cut that is going to be super hard for two dudes to replicate live, unless they somehow grew a few arms while they were away. Thing has layers. For now, London is the only place to see it unfold live–their sole December show is at the Camden Barfly on December 11th.
